T-1A field modified light tank “Brenda” 20mm – 1/35

This is the T-1A( or Panzer 1 Ausf. A) from Master Box(kit#MB3503) in 1/35 scale. Painted in Model Master acrylics and metalizers followed with Georgian oils and Mungyo soft pastels and oil pastels.

It was the first time when on October 28, 1935 the tanks Pz. 1A of “Drohne” group included into the”Condor” legion collided with the Soviet T-26 tanks adopted by the Republicans. Machine guns and armor of the German light tanks where completely helpless against the 45 mm turret and armor of the T-26. To increase fire power, members of German tanks crews had performed a field modification on the spot. They enlarged the turret height by removing the top armor sheet then welding a flat to the turret and reattaching the top. They then could offset the Italian 20mm Brenda to the right for convenience of firing and service. Many Pz. 1As where modified in this way but only one photo of this field modified light tank is known in military literature.
